Identification of a novel gene for familial parkinsonism by exome sequencing

Manabu Funayama (Research Institute for Diseases of Old Age,Graduate School of Medicine,Juntendo University)

We found a large family with parkinsonism including ten patients within two generations. We have collected genomic DNA from seven of the patients with parkinsonism and five of the non-affected family members, and no mutations of reported genes for familial parkinsonism were found in these patients. To identify the new gene for familial parkinsonism of this family,we will perform exome sequencing in three affected members.
